MATT CHATS WITH NIIGAAN SINCLAIR on KAPYONG BARRACKS and SHARING SPACE from Nilufer Rahman on Vimeo.
Matt Henderson, NDP Candidate for Winnipeg South Centre, chats with Niigaan James Sinclair about the Kapyong Barracks and the Federal Court of Appeal’s recent ruling that the government should have consulted with Treaty One First Nations regarding the selling of the 160 acre property in Winnipeg.
KAPYONG BARRACKS: FAST FACTS:
160 acres of property on Kenaston Boulevard and Grant Avenue.
Vacant since 2004 when the Canadian Forces relocated to Shilo, MB.
The federal government declared it surplus land and intended to sell it.
Treaty One First Nations laid claim to this land based on historical use and
the 1997 agreement which committed Manitoba and Canada to
honouring treaty promises of the past.
